T-Boned

Standard

On my way home from the gym yesterday I got t-boned by a very old man in and not-so-new Toyota Sienna. He blew the red light and slammed into me just as I was beginning my left turn. I remember thinking all those other cars aren’t moving, but that one is and wham. Everything just went flash. The airbags deployed and the car slid a couple feet into the intersection.

What a difference a slight angle makes. If I wasn’t turning, he might have hit me square on and I wouldn’t have been getting out of the car under my own power. It’s all, as they say, a miracle things weren’t worse.

It happened yesterday afternoon and I’m a little sore at my hip, shoulder, and temple. I’m waiting to see if it gets worse and might see a doctor later today.

I was driving in a 2012 Ford Focus. It’s a small car that I bought a couple years ago when I was driving a ton. I bought it for the fuel economy, but got a fully loaded one with all the creature comforts of a bigger car. The engineering behind that car is amazing. It absorbed a full speed impact and kept things from caving in on me.

Now comes the fun part. We will see how this plays out with the insurance. I’m very pissed that the car was in great shape for being almost 5 years old. I won’t be able to replace it was a comparable quality car for what should be a pay out from the other driver’s insurance.

Ouuuchh!

Ouuuchh!

Pretty impressive how well the car doors withstood the impact.
